Apple announced at WWDC 2024 that it’s making its big move into AI with a new technology it calls Apple Intelligence.
Apple CEO Tim Cook said there are a few key differences that set Apple Intelligence apart from other AI products: It’s integrated into software you already use, it’s aware of your personal context, and it’s built with a focus on privacy.
What will Apple Intelligence allow you to do? Siri is getting a big upgrade, so you can interact with it more conversationally and use it to accomplish tasks across different apps — so when you’re figuring out the schedule for a meeting, you might not need to jump between Mail, Calendar, and Maps.
Apple is also partnering with OpenAI so users can get access to ChatGPT in apps like Siri without having to pay or even create an account. And it’s introducing writing tools and image-generation tools that should, again, work across apps.
